[00:21] Welcome to The Ziglar Show, where we inspire your true performance. I’m your host Kevin Miller and today we go behind the scenes with Lewis Howes to find out the daily habits for his personal success! Make sure you catch our previous show, #522, where Lewis takes us through his book and message, “The Mask of Masculinity”. Today we walk through the 7 spokes of The Ziglar Wheel of Life.
[00:47] Some highlights: Lewis is a fan of high intensity interval training, thinks nutrition is everything, he meditates every morning, he grew up in the christian religion and today ascribes to the religion of…love. He feels his own podcast, interviewing the greats like we do on the Ziglar show is his best education and testing ground, and he’s an avid salsa dancer! [03:19] Now here we go with Lewis’ Howes daily habits of success!
[03:52] Physical: Movement, my girlfriend is a doctor, a physical therapy and she talks about mobility and movement more than anyone else I know. And when I am working out five days a week and it really doesn’t matter what I do I like to mix it up but when I do some type of strength training and high intensity interval training five days a week and then I move and stretch at least the other two days. I feel unstoppable and I can it really doesn’t matter what activity you do it just matters doing something that brings you fought and enjoyment the thing that you will do. Five days a week at least doing something with intensity thirty to sixty minutes, doesn’t matter. And then at least two days a week doing the stretching and moving as well, doesn’t have to be as intense but it just it cleanses the body when you move it that intensity and that level, and it makes you feel better, makes you feel more confident, gives you energy, gives excitement. So five days a week minimum
[05:12] Nutrition is everything I started learning about this you know really about six seven years ago, I used to think I could eat whatever because I was training hard. But what we put in our body really does matter and you just have to think of everything, it was like is this going to nourish and give me energy or is it going to become a poison in my body. And as aggressive as that may sound, certain things are like a poison and it takes longer for us to digest, takes more for our body to process it and if it’s hard for a body to process something and it doesn’t bring us a sustainable energy, it’ll bring us a short amount of energy and then be hard to process and actually make us tired. So everything is energy and if we focus on those vegetables lean meats are granted grass fed and really everybody is different, so you got to figure out what works for you. So I came in just say but whole thirty is something that I feel like almost anyone could do what you as a whole thirty unless you are vegan then you got to find something else. But it’s just like organic vegetables, nuts and seeds or a kind of grass fed meets and it’s some fruits here and there, just doing that being mindful of what you put in your body where it comes from that’s powerful.
[06:41] Family: You know I think finding the time to be with family for me, you know I’m a I’ve got a girlfriend but I you know I’m a considered a single guy right now who lives in Los Angeles. My family is kind of spread all out over the east eastern time zone of America, so you know currently while this is being recorded it’s Thanksgiving and I flew out for the week to be with my family. So it’s really dedicate that time to be with them. So finding the time to matter where you live in the world, but even you know sometimes if you live with your family you can be still a stranger at times. Even if you’re with them all the time, so find a time with my girlfriend every single night, we share what we’re most grateful for; three things were great for before we go to sleep. And I think finding that quality time to express gratitude whether it’s on Thanksgiving or every day.
[07:43] Mental: For me meditation is powerful and you can call this prayer, you can call this mindfulness visualization whatever maybe you want to call it for me, it’s meditation where I spend about twelve to fifteen minutes in the morning. In silence, really optimizing my mind and going through different things that are frustrating me and letting go of those things and clearing with myself and being at peace about them, so they don’t consume my minds. So I’m a negative mind and connecting my mind to my body and then visualizing how I want to show up that day because there’s going to be a lot of different things that happen throughout the day. So I prepare my mind to my body for the day as opposed to just going through the motions and reacting to the day and that really sets me up to when I believe by being aware of OK different things are going to happen today, how do I want to show up, how do I want to spot, who I want to be, what are the actions I want to take, and by being intentional about my days I believe I produce better results.
[12:20] Financial: The first key is getting clear on how much money I want to make and being very specific about how much and by when. Because without a specific goal as you know it’s just going to be randomly achieving things. So I get very clear on how much I want to make and why do I don’t make that much money, what I want to do with this money, how is this money going to impact me and my friends and family, the community, the world how much am I going to give back this money and I just really start to just live in that space and that way the challenges of making the money become less challenging, they just become like OK well how do we make this happen. So that I can create this results that I want to have in the world, so getting very clear on the specific financial number and by when but I want to achieve them so that I’m clear, my team is clear, going all these things.
[14:42] Spiritual: It’s funny because you know I grew up in a religion, in Christian religion and you know believing certain things and it’s interesting because I interview so many different spiritual leaders, who have different beliefs and different ideals and different backgrounds and belief systems. And so I really just try to focus on how can I be the best human being I can be, how can I be the most giving, the most loving, how can I make love my religion, how can I bring together humanity because I believe all religions are pointing toward the same moon you know they’re all going trying to go to the same direction and they just have different nuances of what they believe and on how to get there. And so if I kind of just eliminate that and say you know what it comes back to inner peace and having a purposeful vision to lift up the world and bring humanity together and bring love and community together. That’s what it’s all about that’s why I try to focus on that.
[16:18] Career/Business: I’m constantly learning you know I believe my podcast is a great like educational testing ground for me, because I’m interviewing some of the most successful business leaders in the world and educating myself in a learning about different nuances of audience growth of finance of taxes of all these different things. And some costly learning and having that outlet. So if you don’t have some type of thing for you than finding going to workshops works you know on cost that trying to explore and learn things that I don’t know because I don’t have all the answers yet, you know what I’d probably never will.
[17:23] Personal/Fun: I’m a big salsa dancer, I do acro yoga, like to play guitar, I like to go to the beach, I live in L.A. and so it’s finding the time ever see a week to decompress and do the things that I love and not just focus on because I can be focused on business all day every day if I wanted to. Really find those things that are bring the richness of life, you know the arts the creative style of my personality and doing things that bring out my creativity. So it’s find the time for that as well.
